Comprehensive Wellness Program

We believe the key to a healthy, balanced life is supporting all six dimensions of wellness—physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, social, and vocational. That’s why we’ve established a wellness program that provides opportunities to enhance each of these dimensions.

  • Our executive chef prepares meals that delight the palate and provide good nutrition.
  • Our Fitness Center and indoor pool, along with the many exercise and wellness classes offered, promote good physical health.
  • Residents stay informed through on-campus seminars related to general health, brain fitness, stress management, and more.
  • Visiting musicians, performers, and artists provide personal enrichment.
  • Social engagement takes place throughout campus, all day long, each and every day, as residents interact with others while dining, exercising, and participating in hobby groups or recreational activities.

Our on-site fitness center offers state-of-the-art exercise equipment, a plethora of exercise classes for all ability levels, and an indoor pool for a variety of activities. Features include:

Activities & Classes

Part of our wellness philosophy involves offering a robust schedule of classes and activities.

Aqua Aerobics – our water exercise program is popular with just about everyone on campus because of the dynamic but gentle workout it provides. It’s also a great way to recover from some types of injuries or surgeries.

Ballroom Dance – Ballroom dance offers an array of benefits: improved posture and balance, exercise, a sense of accomplishment, a new dimension to relationships, and fun. Learn the art of partner dancing while practicing the world’s most popular dances. Class is tailored to meet the needs and desires of attendees, so come make your dance dreams a reality!

Low-impact Aerobics – a fun workout for the whole body. It starts with a gentle warm-up then moves into cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility training.

Stretch and Tone – focuses on gentle weight-bearing exercises that concentrate on posture, balance, flexibility, core strength, and fall prevention.

Core Strength – a session of abdominal exercises that improve core strength.

Circuit Training – a weight room workout done to motivational music. It incorporates cardiovascular training and strength training.

Yoga – uses gentle breathing patterns and stretching postures to reduce stress and unite the mind and body.

Tai Chi – a traditional form of exercise that helps the mind and body work in concert. It’s also excellent for improving balance.

Finding Better Balance – concentrates on practicing safe transitions when moving up and down from the floor, increasing range-of-movement, and includes drills to increase your ability to balance.

Functional Fitness – includes mental work such as crossword puzzles and physical work such as functional exercises. This is a great class for new exercisers and/or people who use walkers.

Aquatic Program

Our saline indoor pool and spa are places residents love spending time, whether they are swimming laps, taking an aqua-aerobics class, or just relaxing in the warmth of the bubbling spa.

Swimming is beneficial to everyone, but those who have arthritis or are recovering from an injury or surgery can reap even greater rewards from this gentle exercise. Both the pool and spa have graduated stairs for easy entry and exit, and our therapy pool is specially designed with warm water to provide low-impact therapy for fitness and injury recovery. 

There is also a specially designed transport system for residents who cannot walk into the pool on their own. Residents find this useful when they are recovering from a hip or knee surgery: they can be gently lowered into the pool to do their water-based physical therapy, and then be gently lifted out.

Rehabilitation Gym

Our Rehabilitation Gym is more than just state-of-the-art—it’s spacious and bright and a place where progress is made every day. Here, our physical therapists help residents recover from strokes, broken hips, knee replacements, and much more.

The gym is outfitted with highly advanced equipment, including the OmniVR™ Virtual Rehabilitation System. This is the first virtual rehabilitation system developed to accommodate the needs of medically complex patients, including aging adults. This easy-to-use technology employs an advanced 3D camera and specialized computer software to track patients’ precise movements and allow them to interact in a virtual world. The system includes a variety of exercise programs for physical, occupational, and speech therapy applications. Research indicates that patients enjoy performing virtual exercises and activities, therefore motivating them to exercise harder and longer. As a result, virtual rehabilitation treatment outcomes can equal or even exceed those achieved with traditional therapeutic exercise alone.
