Culture Abounds

There’s always something to do in Southern Oregon. With so many theaters, from the world-renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Oregon Cabaret Theatre, the Craterian Theater, or the many smaller local venues, there is always a play to be seen. If you’re looking for music, the Britt Festival in the summer brings in talent from all over the globe, while the Rogue Valley Symphony showcases both the modern and classical prowess of our regional orchestra.

Owing to our warm weather, Southern Oregon’s vineyards and wineries grow a broad selection of captivating wines. Sample well over fifty wineries, many of whom frequently host live jazz and winemakers dinners, where oenophiles are invited to sample recent or cellared vintages. Nothing pairs with wine like fine dining, and Southern Oregon does not disappoint. We feature spirited cuisine, locally sourced by award-winning chefs. Whether you prefer a classic ravioli or an inventive six-course tasting menu, we’re sure you’ll find what you’re looking for.

In Medford, you’ll have the amenities of a larger city with the conveniences of a small town. The Valley provides ample shopping, including many unique and boutique stores, and it’s all too easy to find oneself caught between a creamery, a wine tasting room, and a chocolatier. The area strongly supports the arts, and on Friday evenings you can take a leisurely walk through curated galleries, and Ashland’s Independent Film Festival shows nearly 100 fantastic national and international films annually.

Southern Oregon University and other educational institutions bring in authors and lecturers yearly to present new work. To better accommodate curious minds, SOU became an established home of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, which supports classes and activity groups for retirees. OLLI also offers social functions and the ability to audit SOU courses, so you can continue to challenge and enrich yourself intellectually alongside other dedicated students.
