URC History

Our History

In 1993, Davis citizens spearheaded the effort to bring a continuing care retirement community (now referred to as a Life Plan Community) to their town. They formed a nonprofit organization, the Davis Senior Housing and Care Continuum (DSHCC), whose purpose was to enlist both the public and private sectors to finance and construct a CCRC where the emphasis was on lifelong learning, personal growth, health, and well-being. DSHCC, working with the newly formed board of directors of University Retirement Community, selected Pacific Retirement Services (PRS) as its affiliate to oversee the planning, design, construction, and management of this new senior living community. The first of nearly 400 residents began moving into the new community on February 21, 2000. Today, URC and PRS have exceeded all of the original expectations.
