CARE is a child care provider mentoring
program that aims at protecting the children
of Jackson County by helping providers meet standards that go beyond the
minimum state requirements. The program is strictly voluntary, but CARE
certified providers benefit in many ways.
Trained volunteers from the Retired and Senior
Volunteer Program (RSVP) visit the Family Child Care Provider to observe
their program as a means to determine the provider is meeting locally
developed quality standards. If necessary, the CARE volunteer can offer
constructive suggestions and technical support to help in this achievement.
An Advisory Panel of local child care experts oversees the program.
The emphasis of the CARE program is to help
the Family Child Care Provider reach their full potential. The visits
provide constructive suggestions and offer help in improving your child
care program. Three levels of CARE certification are offered -- so whether
you are just starting out as a Family Child Care Provider or have had
years of experience, the CARE Program can help you improve your child
care services.
The CARE program is available to all Family
Child Care Providers at no charge, yet all benefit from the program!
CARE
providers receive constructive feedback on ways to improve their Family
Child Care Provider program.
Your
involvement in the CARE program reinforces that you are providing a
safe and nurturing environment to the children in your care. At the
completion of the visitation process, you will be presented with a certificate
showing your child care home meets the determined level of CARE standards.
CARE
certified providers benefit by having their names included in the Child
Care Resource Network, which is the County resource and referral database
for child care programs in the area. The referral service helps your
business grow and helps parents feel more secure about your provider
program.
CARE
providers may benefit from the technical support available. Through
grants, the CARE program provides safety items such as fire extinguishers,
smoke detectors, infant thermometers, first aid kits, tuition for CPR
and first aid classes and other technical assistance when needed.
CARE
certified providers receive a choice of two resource books provided
by the Commission on Children and Families.
