Residents Assistance Fund
The Residents Assistance Fund was once described by a generous contributor as “that fund I hope I never need, but I’m sure glad it’s here!” These resources are available to residents of the Manor who, through no fault of their own, have outlived their dollars and are in need of financial assistance.
The Rogue Valley Manor Fund
This fund is restricted to uses that benefit the residents of Rogue Valley Manor on the Manor campus and that comply with the Manor’s primary mission.
Health Care Center Fund
This fund provides dollars to improve the quality of life for residents in the Health Center. Support for the fund has been generated through direct gifts, memorial gifts, bequests, and a planned gift.
Health Center Operating Fund
During the capital fund drive for the Special Care Center, we established the Health Center Operating Fund. Gifts made to this fund are used to offset the cost of operating the Health Center.
Mary Lou and Glen Guttormsen Fund
The purpose of this fund is to enhance the skills and provide the professional development of any Health Center employee. It also allows us to improve staff morale by sponsoring food baskets or flowers for ill employees.
Wheelchair Endowment Fund
This endowed fund was established in 1991. With an endowment fund, only the growth and earnings can be used to support the designated purpose of the donor. Earnings from this fund are used to defray the cost of purchasing and maintaining walkers, wheelchairs, and geri chairs, which are provided at no charge to residents in need.
Health Center transportation Fund
This endowed fund was initially established in 1992 to support a transportation program for Health Center and Residential Living residents who had no other means of getting to their medical appointments. Transportation to and from their appointments was provided by the Yellow Cab Company.
Employee Scholarship Fund
The purpose of this fund is to assist Rogue Valley Manor employees who desire professional growth, and who want to pursue a formal licensing or degree program in a field related to their current or anticipated job responsibilities. A scholarship of $500 per term is provided to nonmedical employees, and $1,000 per term goes to those who work in medical-related positions within our Health Center. When they have successfully completed their course of study, the financial obligation is excused by $1 for every hour they work at the Manor.
Fairy Godmother Scholarship Fund
This fund was originated by Rogue Valley Manor resident Cornelia Tomes to provide major scholarships to young women who aspire to continue their education, but cannot due to economic reasons. The fund is governed by a committee of residents, community leaders, and a member from the Foundation Board. These individuals evaluate the candidates, select the participants, and monitor their progress with the help of individual mentors who are assigned to each student. Mentoring assures that participants continue to meet the standards that qualify them for support, such as remaining pregnancy- and drug-free, completing at least 12 units per term, and maintaining a C grade point average. Godmother Program visit their website, www.fairygodmotherscholarship.org.
Douglas New Vision Center
Our new Vision program was introduced in 1990 to help retirees receive the tools they need to continue lifelong learning activities such as writing, reading, communicating, gaining new knowledge, and discovering new interests. Located next to the Manor Library, the Vision Center offers special equipment to overcome age-related challenges, including computers with voice enhancement; chat messaging, which allows a hearing-impaired person (and others) to communicate instantly with anyone in the world using a computer; two state-of-the-art electronic magnifiers, for those who need magnification to read; classes that inspire retirees to learn computers and other new technologies; and additional computers to enhance quality of life through learning and communication.
