Medford Welcomes Spring!

We asked RVM residents and staff what season they love the most at RVM, and we thought you'd enjoy reading their responses below. We've also included links, so you can learn about the activities they enjoy the most in southern Oregon.

"My favorite time of year in this area is summer: the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Britt Festivals, the availability of the coast and its beaches, Crater Lake, etc., etc."—Charlotte Rising

"For me, born and raised in Hawai'i and having lived in Alaska, the best part of living at RVM is the springtime. Seeing the bonanza of blossoms all around is so totally intense that it is a feast for my eyes."—Janet Scott

"Having four seasons is great, but spring is so wonderful, when the buds come out and the trees and bushes spring into life with varying colors of green. The flowering trees and bushes come out in all colors, and the flowers all start to bloom. A close second (or nearly a tie) is autumn, when again the campus bursts into varying colors. It is gorgeous."—Val Rhodes

"My favorite times of the year in Medford are spring when the trees are in bloom, and fall when the leaves are changing. The color at both times is almost overwhelming. Another advantage: it's wonderful to see snow, watch it fall, see it on the roofs, etc. But, it's a huge relief to know that it won't disturb things for any amount of time, and instead hangs around on the mountains to be admired."—Dick Warren

"To paraphrase a bit: 'What is so rare as a day in spring? Then, if ever, come perfect days.' Especially the extended spring season in Medford! After 18 years at RVM, I'm still amazed each February when there are a few days that I can lie on a lounge chair on our cottage deck, warmed and tanned by the sun, while before me are crocuses already blooming, green daffodils pushing through the ground, large buds on our camellia bushes, butter-yellow forsythias lining the sidewalks, and pink plum trees gracing the entire campus accented by beds and baskets of flowers. It is also the season when the resident hiking group enjoys lunch beside a lake or near a rushing waterfall; and when many of us stroll through Ashland's Lithia Park, along its shop-filled streets, or attend a play in an outdoor Shakespeare theatre."—Joyce Heinz

"My first choice is summer. I can see a play in Ashland or in local theaters, go to a Britt Symphony Orchestra concert, have lunch at a local mountain lake resort (only 45 minutes from RVM), tour the wineries, jet boat on the Rogue River, and many, many other fun things to do. I also enjoy fall: the beautiful colors of the aspens, the Medford Jazz Festival, and there's still time to see the Shakespeare plays in Ashland."—Pat Akery, RVM Future Resident and Regional Sales Director
