News from the Manor
Manor Expansion Update: We're always interested in and responsive to the needs and wants of residents. This is only a part of what we do to enhance your lifestyle when you reside at the Manor. As you may know, we recently expanded the Fitness Center with larger locker rooms, a more beautiful pool, and more. Some of the new exercise equipment even have TVs! We're also remodeling the Main Manor Dining Room, which is one-third of the way complete (we're doing it in three phases for everyone's convenience). We'll soon have a whole new entrance, and we'll start soon on remodeling the front lobby. We've been busy leveling the land for the Health Care Center expansion, which will also add new residences to the hub of our 668-acre community. Watch future e-newsletters for more updates or feel free to call Judi Del Ponte at 541-857-7401.
What Fun We Have: Here's something you may not know. Every year in November (this year it is Nov. 6), Manor residents and employees are given a chance to buy unique holiday gifts at the Annual Craft Sale, held in the Manor's Auditorium. All year, creative and handy Manor residents build their stock of handmade crafts for selling at the Sale, from their published books and specialty foods, to handcrafted jewelry, wood products, and holiday and other crafts. The funds they collect inspire another whole year of creative expression. To learn about other activities you'll enjoy as a resident of the Manor, call Judi Del Ponte at 541-857-7401.
Veteran's Day Celebration
November 7
Here's your chance to celebrate Veterans Day while you enjoy a special evening concert and dance. At 7:00 p.m., the Swing Kings Big Band gets things started with dance favorites from the 1940s-50s. At 8:00 p.m., the 75-member Southern Oregon Concert Band performs "Americana," a program of concert works and patriotic music. Come to the Medford Armory, 1701 S. Pacific Hwy, Medford. Call (541) 245-4325. Also visit www.socband.org.
Local Antique and Craft Shows
November Highlights
It's that time of year again when local craft and antique shows flourish in the Rogue Valley. We have just the right balance here between city and country living, with easy access to store-bought and home-grown products. Here are just a few November events that occur at the Medford Armory (541-245-4326).
- November 9-10-11: Country Heart 14th Annual Antique Show and Sale. The show benefits Jackson County Dogs for the Deaf and features a wide variety of antiques and collectibles. Call Country Heart Promotions at (530) 475-3515.
- November 16-17-18: Clay Folk Pottery Show. The region's largest display of handmade pottery and ceramic sculpture featuring more than 60 of the finest Oregon potters. Call 541-535-6700.
Plaid Tidings
Starting November 16
We think you'll enjoy this one. A popular 1960s guy group returns to Ashland's Oregon Cabaret Theatre to present a Plaids Christmas Special inspired by their idol, Perry Como, with crystalline harmonies and arrangements, dinner, and a fun time for all. In addition to "new" old songs like "Stranger in Paradise" and "Sh-Boom," you'll also hear classic holiday songs and a new edition of the Ed Sullivan Show in 3 minutes and 11 seconds! Call 541-488-2902 or visit www.oregoncabaret.com.
GingerBread Jubilee
November 16-17-18
If you've never seen this collection of gingerbread creations, don't miss the chance this year. Everyone gets involved, from school-age children to Harry and David, to submit creations that turn this family tradition into art. Last year we saw an Oregon Ducks football game in a table-sized stadium, an entire Scandinavian town prepared by chefs at Harry and David, and a big top circus complete with wild animals. Creations are on view for a nominal fee at Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater in Downtown Medford. Call 541.282.4592; visit www.craterian.org.
Rogue Valley Railroad Show
November 23-24-25
If you've been receiving these newsletters for a while, you'll know about the family friendly Medford Railroad Park. It serves as a free summer fun park for kids and an enjoyable excursion for railroad fans and history buffs, yet it is completely run by donations and volunteers. Now you can help support this affordable form of family entertainment by attending the 30th Annual Rogue Valley Railroad Show and fund-raiser, with antique model railroad displays, door prizes and raffles, a swap meet, numerous model railroad layouts of all gauges, train-related retail goods, and a large railroad information and historical display. Call Bill Meyer at 541-773-5889.
