Intel Executive Eric Dishman to Board of Mirabella Portland

(Medford, Oregon) September 4, 2007 – Pacific Retirement Services, Inc. (PRS), a not-for-profit senior housing organization serving four states, announced today that Eric Dishman, PhD, BA, MSc, has been elected to the Board of Mirabella Portland, a new 30-story, planned Continuing Care Retirement Community by PRS coming to the South Waterfront area of Portland, Oregon. Dishman is general manager and global director of Intel’s Health Research and Innovation Group, where he is responsible for driving worldwide research, new product innovation, and usability engineering activities in health care. Trained as a social scientist, Dishman is also a principal research scientist for the health group, bringing an ethnographic approach to research and product development efforts as part of the largest social science team in the technology industry.

Located in the U.S. and Europe, Dishman’s group focuses on developing information and communication technologies across the continuum of health care from hospital to home. Recent projects include a global study of the needs of the aging, technologies for helping seniors take their medications through contextualized prompts, an in-home research tool studying the progress of Parkinson's Disease, new technologies for helping to detect and prevent falls from occurring in the home, and they are exploring mobile interventions that integrate biosensors to improve emotional and cardiovascular health.

In addition to the above credits, Dishman is National Chair of the Center for Aging Services Technologies (CAST), a cross-industry advocacy group to accelerate technology R&D for aging-in-place. He is co-director of ORCATECH with Dr. Jeff Kaye from Oregon Health & Science University, a NIH-funded Roybal Center conducting independent living technology research.
