University Retirement Community Summer 2001

Journal

The Winning Streak Continues!

The residents and staff of University Retirement Community (URC) already know that their campus is a special place to live, learn, and grow, but now there's even greater reason to celebrate this unique senior living community.

URC was recently chosen to receive an Award of Merit from the prestigious Golden Nugget program. Now in their 38th year, the Golden Nugget Awards honor creative achievement, aesthetic merit, innovation, and effectiveness in architectural design.

This award comes on the heels of two others. In August 2000, URC was awarded the Gold Key Award for "Excellence in Design," and in February 2001, it was presented with two gold medals in The Best of Seniors’ Housing Design Awards competition.

The Golden Nugget Awards are often described as "the competition that defines the leading edge" in design. Each year, the awards draw an impressive array of entrants from 14 western states and countries throughout the Pacific Rim. Golden Nugget judges are renowned for their integrity and diversity. The panel of judges includes some of the finest architects, planners, and builders in the industry.

This year, URC was recognized in the "Best Active Senior Living Community" category, and its honorees are the developer, Pacific Retirement Services; the architects, Ankrom Moisan Associated Architects; and the builder, Walsh Construction.

Pat Brown, URC's Executive Director says, "Without a doubt, this is one of the finest retirement communities in the nation. We are very happy to have had so many awards organizations recognize this as well."
