The east side of Rogue Valley Manor’s campus will soon be home to Centennial Golf Club, a brand-new 18-hole championship golf course designed by two-time PGA Tour winner and 1977 US Amateur Champion John Fought. Centennial is a joint venture between the Rogue Valley Manor and its parent company, Pacific Retirement Services. The course has already been completely seeded, with grass growing on every hole and the sand bunkers filled in. Centennial is scheduled to open May 15, 2006. Centennial Golf Club will be open to the public and offers a variety of membership opportunities. Features include five tee settings on an ex-pansive 7,350-yard, par-72 layout, a golf shop, a practice facility, and a restaurant offering both indoor and outdoor dining areas. Players of all levels will enjoy the course’s tremendous views, classic design style, brilliant white sand bunkers, and elegant course presentation. The name Centennial was chosen to recognize the classic era of golf reflected in the design as well as the history of the site—a former historic pear orchard more than 100 years old. The name also evokes the rich history of southern Oregon and the people who first settled the region. The beautiful mountain peaks visible from the course are named in honor of the settlers: Wagner Butte, Roxy Ann Peak, Ogden Hill, Anderson Butte, and many more. Course designer John Fought is a native Oregonian and has designed some of the most notable courses in the Northwest, including Pumpkin Ridge (Ghost Creek and Witch Hollow), Crosswater and Meadows courses at Sunriver Resort, Langdon Farms Golf Club, and the Reserve Golf Club. He says, “The golf course at Centennial will have truly spectacular views and is being designed in a classic Donald Ross style. The land on which the course sits is ideal for a layout of this type. We’ve had very little earth to move on the site.” Kevin McLoughlin, the Manor’s Executive Administrator, says, “We’re very excited about adding Centennial Golf Club to our campus. Residents are thrilled with their new views of the lush course, and resident golfers are looking forward to getting out on the course and playing as soon as it opens. We are sure this course is going to become a premier golf destination.” OB Sports, a management company specializing in golf courses, has been brought in to help with Centennial’s management. It is a diversified golf-oriented company with a long history of success. OB Sports enjoys a reputation as a premier operator and developer of high-quality golf courses throughout the United States.
