Our Priorities: Residents, Quality, Teamwork, Innovation From the day of its founding, Pacific Retirement Services, Inc. (PRS) has dedicated itself to enhancing the lives of seniors. Through the years, as the organization has grown, it has continued to define the standard of excellence in building spacious residences and providing fine services for retirees throughout the United States. Today PRS is recognized as one of the largest and most respected not-for-profit providers of senior housing services in the nation.
Tom believes that another central element that has allowed PRS to excel is the quality of its employees. As he explains it, “We have the best people in the country working for our organization. The passion and the dedication they bring to their jobs are inspiring. That’s true of our Executive Management staff, our Department Managers, and our Supervisors. That’s true of our Executive Administrators, our Retirement Counselors, and the front-line staff at each of our communities. Collectively and individually, the PRS team members are what make this such a great company to be a part of. They are also what make each PRS community such a special place for residents to live.” Another very important aspect of PRS’s success is having a centralized corporate headquarters in Medford, Oregon. “By centralizing the core functions required by all communities, we eliminate duplicated efforts, maximize efficiency across the board, leverage economies of scale, and maintain quality control over all areas of operation,” says Tom. For example, in addition to a small Human Resources staff at each individual community, the PRS Human Resources Department serves all affiliates. As Vice President of Human Resources Tamara Nordin says, “This method of hiring and overseeing staff for all affiliates provides a major advantage. It allows us to really search the country for talented people who share our work ethic and our level of integrity. It allows us to do full background checks on every single potential employee, which is so important when you are providing services to seniors. We consider this one of our critical functions. There’s nothing more important than finding the very best employees.”
Likewise with Operations, Health Services, Dining Services, Accounting, and Purchasing. Because all of these services are centralized in Medford, PRS acts as a one-stop shop for each affiliate’s needs. Group purchasing allows all PRS communities to take advantage of economies of scale when buying everything from office furniture and computers to health care equipment and medical supplies. Group purchasing allows the Dining Services Department at each community to benefit from the same economies of scale when purchasing food supplies and kitchen equipment. Because our Operations and Health Services Departments are centralized, residents can rest assured, knowing that the services and the care they receive are of the highest quality and are provided at the most reasonable cost possible. And because PRS’s Development and Construction are also centralized, residents know that their community has been designed with their needs in mind and constructed with the utmost care. These then — attentiveness to residents’ needs, an insistence on hiring only high-quality people, and the implementation of a central foundation that supports the whole company — are the factors to which PRS owes its success. As Tom says, “All of us at PRS are very proud of the strong and efficient organization we’ve built together.”
