Mirabella Portland, which is being built in the fashionable new South Waterfront district, sits along the Willamette River and offers residents views, views, and more views! Residents will enjoy vistas of Mount Hood, the downtown city lights, the river, the bridges, West Hills, and the new city park. Of course, as a PRS not-for-profit CCRC, it goes without saying that Mirabella Portland will offer incredibly spacious apartment homes, featuring the finest appointments, the very best in services and amenities, and on-site health care. As Mirabella Portland was being designed, the PRS Development Team worked closely with the architects to ensure that this community would live up to the goals inherent in the Mirabella Philosophy. Every detail has been carefully considered. In fact, according to the Daily Journal of Commerce, when the plans were reviewed by the Portland Design Commission, Ankrom Moisan Associated Architects’ slim, sculptural design for the 30-story CCRC drew rave reviews. Commission Vice Chairman Michael McCulloch described it as “a very carefully done piece of sculpture…beautiful.” PRS Development also worked diligently in preparing what is referred to as “the Program Book,” a document that outlines the exact services residents will receive and/or have access to once the community opens. Currently, PRS Chief Operating Officer Jill Collins and her staff are taking the information in the Program Book and planning how to deliver the services to residents. Part of that is making sure that residents receive the best possible services for the most reasonable cost. As Jill says, “Creating a new community requires extensive teamwork among many departments. My staff and I are working with Human Resources to staff Mirabella Portland, we’re working with Facility Services to make sure the physical plant is perfect, we’re working with Health Services to ensure that the best health care is available, and we’re working with Dining Services to make sure the meals are delicious and healthful. We’re also working with Purchasing, which allows us to maximize economies of scale. It’s truly a team effort.” Once it’s built out, Mirabella Portland’s neighborhood will be a thriving urban center designed for resident convenience. Surrounded by luxury condominiums housing people of all ages, the area will also be home to great restaurants, cafés, shopping, and theatres — along with the beauty and the recreational opportunities afforded by the Willamette River. The plan for the area includes creating 5.7 acres of parks and green spaces, with interconnected pedestrian paths and bikeways. Additionally, at Mirabella Portland, PRS has partnered with OHSU to develop innovative health care services that will benefit Mirabella Portland residents through an application of technology and improved models of care. Residents will also be able to participate in wellness, clinical, and research activities sponsored by OHSU. Mirabella Portland is being built as a “green” building, meaning it will meet the requirements of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings. It promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. Mirabella Portland will be the first CCRC in Oregon to be LEED certified. Its level of LEED certification will be Silver at minimum and may very well be Gold, which is a higher level of certification. We are still researching the matter, but to the best of our knowledge Mirabella Portland will be the first CCRC in the nation to achieve this certification. Back to PRS Annual Report Index
