| PRS Annual Report 2007 | |||||||
|
Holladay Park Plaza was originally built in 1967. In 1999 it became an affiliate of Pacific Retirement Services, and under PRS’s guidance it has undergone a total renovation and remodel. Today the Plaza is best described as “comfortable yet elegant” and “friendly and sophisticated.” It’s a pleasant blend of what longtime residents have come to cherish and what new residents have come to expect in a fine senior-living community, particularly one operated by PRS. The Plaza enjoys a fabulous Eastside location just 10 minutes from downtown Portland. It’s also across the street from the newly renovated Lloyd Center and Fareless Square, where residents can ride city buses or the MAX Light Rail for free; and it’s close to shopping, fine restaurants, a variety of cultural venues, and the Eastbank Esplanade and Tom McCall Waterfront Park along the Willamette River. The only thing the Plaza’s location lacked was room to grow. As providence would have it, in 2007 a parcel of land directly across the street from Holladay Park Plaza came up for sale. The property developers had intended to build a condominium complex on the land, but they reconsidered and decided to put the land up for sale. The Plaza’s Board of Directors, working with PRS, determined that this property was perfectly situated to expand the Plaza campus. The Plaza purchased the property and is currently working with PRS’s Operations and Development Teams to create Holladay Place. This new addition is being designed as a seven-story building, offering 23 Independent Living apartments and street-level parking. In keeping with the tastes of today’s seniors, these new residences will be incredibly spacious. Residents will have the opportunity to choose from one-bedroom-plus-den floor plans, two-bedroom/two-bath floor plans, and a limited number of Penthouse apartments. Mary Naylor, PRS Vice President of Development, is currently working with the City of Portland on land entitlements, which is basically a process that provides due-diligence reports for cost/benefit analysis and ensures that all planning implications have been fully investigated. John Larson, the Plaza’s Executive Administrator, says, “We are very excited to see Holladay Place become a reality. The PRS Development Team is an amazing resource, and we greatly value their expertise. What’s more, because we know the PRS team is always there taking care of things on the larger scale, it lets me and my local staff focus on what we need to be focusing on: the day-to-day operations, resident satisfaction, and resident care. And that’s what it’s all about.” Back to PRS Annual Report Index
