Wellness Spotlight with Katie Oaks, Wellness Clinic Nurse

June 26, 2014

Mirabella now offers more health and wellness services for Independent Living residents and focuses on prevention and education. “Our expanded wellness services are designed for a very specific purpose: to help residents stay as independent as possible for as long as possible,” says Katie Oaks, Wellness Clinic Nurse.

“There are lots of new services available with a strong educational element. It never stops at just checking blood pressure,” says Katie. It’s more of a holistic approach to wellness. There’s a focus on the whole person, not just the diagnostics. Prevention is key at The Wellness Clinic. “Not only do we treat the problem, but we always try to get to the cause,” says Katie. A friendly nurse consultation allows her to talk to residents about medications, nutrition, safety, and to make recommendations.

The Wellness Clinic is an excellent resource for people who live at Mirabella. It’s open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., and offers different services like:

  • Specialist appointments with a podiatrist and audiologist
  • Free blood pressure clinics on Wednesdays 9-11 a.m.
  • Medication support and organization

With these expanded services, it’s easier to stay well and stay independent for longer at Mirabella. This is a community where everything you need to feel healthier, happier, and more fulfilled in mind, body and spirit is here on campus.
