Wellness as a Way of Life
At Capitol Lakes, wellness of mind, body, and spirit is a way of life. Every aspect of our community is focused on enhancing resident health and helping each person stay vital, physically active, cognitively healthy, and happy as they age.
Our comprehensive Wellness Program is designed around the principle of successful aging as described by the MacArthur Foundation research. They found that as much as 70% of physical aging is related to lifestyle choices that include eating a healthy diet, getting enough physical exercise, and keeping one's mind active and engaged.
At Capitol Lakes, wellness means supporting residents in all of these aspects. For example, our Fine Dining program offers food that is healthy, delicious, inventive, and full of variety — so eating right is easy.
Our state-of-the-art Aquatic & Wellness Center features a heated Indoor Lap Pool, an Aqua Exercise Pool, a Spa, his and her Locker Rooms, and a Massage Therapy Room. We also offer two Fitness Centers. One is a large exercise studio where residents take a variety of classes including tai chi, yoga, chair fitness, and stretch and tone. Our second exercise studio offers Keiser and Nautilus circuit training equipment, along with handheld free weights. There are also elliptical trainers, recumbent bicycles, and treadmills. You can visit our online Photo Gallery to see our Fitness Centers and Aquatic & Wellness Center for yourself.
Resident wellness is also supported by the many programs, activities, and on-campus seminars that provide opportunities for social engagement, personal enrichment, lifelong learning, and so much more.
Are your friends and relatives scattered everywhere? Do they not stay in touch as often as you'd like them to? More and more adults are turning to social networking sites like Facebook in order to keep regular contact with their loved ones. In fact, people age 55 and older are the fastest growing group of Facebook users. Why? Because it's free and so many of the people they know are already on there, chatting and sharing photos about their daily lives.
Social networking sites can also be a good way to find new friends. Many people find others with similar interests and hobbies through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and similar sites. Online social networking is the modern-day version of "pen pals."
Capitol Lakes has Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages that anyone is welcome to visit. If you'd like to see what everyday life is like here — or meet some of your future neighbors and friends — please feel free to take a peek.
