Wellness as a Way of Life
At University Retirement Community (URC), wellness of mind, body, and spirit is a way of life. Every aspect of our community is focused on enhancing resident health and helping each person stay vital, physically active, cognitively healthy, and happy as they age.
Our comprehensive Wellness Program is designed around the principle of successful aging as described by the MacArthur Foundation research. The study found that as much as 70% of physical aging is related to lifestyle choices that include eating a healthy diet, getting enough physical exercise, and keeping one's mind active and engaged.
At URC, wellness means supporting residents in all of these aspects. For example, our Fine Dining program offers food that is healthy, delicious, inventive, and full of variety–so eating right is easy.
Our brand-new, state-of-the-art Fitness & Aquatics Center features a large Indoor Pool, a warm-water Therapy Pool, a Spa, his and her Steam Rooms, a Sauna, and Massage Therapy Rooms. Residents can enjoy swimming laps, taking aqua-aerobics classes, or just relaxing in the Spa. The new Center also features a fitness room with exercise equipment specially designed for seniors, and a large exercise studio where tai chi, low-impact aerobics, seated aerobics, and Yogalates are offered. You can visit our online Photo Gallery to see this incredible new facility for yourself.
Resident wellness is also supported by the many programs, activities, and on-campus seminars that provide opportunities for social engagement, personal enrichment, lifelong learning, and so much more.
Are your friends and relatives scattered everywhere? Do they not stay in touch as often as you'd like them to? More and more adults are turning to social networking sites like Facebook in order to keep regular contact with their loved ones. In fact, people age 55 and older are the fastest growing group of Facebook users. Why? Because it's free and so many of the people they know are already on there, chatting and sharing photos about their daily lives.
Social networking sites can also be a good way to find new friends. Many people find others with similar interests and hobbies through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and similar sites. Online social networking is the modern-day version of "pen pals."
University Retirement Community has Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages that anyone is welcome to visit. If you'd like to see what everyday life is like here —or meet some of your future neighbors and friends — please feel free to take a peek.
